Why does my AC keep losing refrigerant?
A sealed system does not use refrigerant up. If the charge is low, there is a leak, most commonly at a Schrader valve, a brazed joint or the evaporator coil. Locating and repairing the leak is the only fix that lasts; recharging alone just defers the cost.
How do I know if my ducts are leaking?
Rooms that never reach the setpoint, a system that runs constantly, and high bills relative to the cooling achieved are the usual signs. A static pressure measurement and an attic inspection confirm it and show where the losses are.
Is a broken AC really an emergency?
For a healthy adult in a ventilated house, it is uncomfortable. For infants, older adults, or anyone with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, sustained indoor heat is a genuine health risk. If someone in the household is in that group, treat it as urgent.
